Overview

We organise on Meetup, please sign up at the web-link below to let use know you are coming.

We greet the first weekend of the year with a short and straightforward walk, heading out of Soham along Soham Lode. After various glimpses of Ely Cathedral, we will finally head towards it as we join the Great Ouse. Before reaching Ely, we cross the river via the new(ish) viewing platform for a Fenland Panorama. There is the option of concluding the walk with drinks at the Cutter Inn.

Meet at Soham railway station, at 10:45..

Please remember to bring a packed lunch and something to drink as there are no shops on the way.

By train, if coming from Cambridge, take the 10:03 to Ely, stopping at Cambridge North at 10:08 and Waterbeach at 10:13. At Ely, we will be taking the 10:31 to Soham.

If driving, I recommend parking at Ely or Waterbeach to join us on the train, as the return trains from Ely to Soham are every two hours. You can park at Soham station, but I can't promise that you will get a train back before it gets dark!

If coming from Cambridge or Waterbeach, buy a day return to Soham (do not choose a "Greater Anglia only" ticket). If coming from Ely, buy a single to Soham.

Please note that this is a linear walk so we will not be returning to Soham at the end. If you park at Soham, you will need to take the 14:31 or 16:31 train back from Ely (depending on how fast we are)
